Sudhagad Education Society’s Sheth J.N.Paliwala College of Commerce, Arts & Science College was established in 1989 with a view, to provide,” education to the students, mostly for first generation learners, of the Sudhagad Taluka who used to go to Khopoli ,Alibag, Mahad, Panvel, Pune etc which are located at a distance of 40 to 80km from Pali. In 1989, due to the generous efforts of Shri. V.G. Oswal, Raigad Dnyan Prabodhini, Pen started a senior college at Pali. The Class was conducted in the premises of Sudhagad education Society’s G.B.Vader Highschool & Jr. College Pali. The Raigad Dnyan Prabodhini handed over the college to Sudhagad Education Society due to the difficulties arising because of the distance. In the initial stages of the college, the situation was very critical. In June 1989 the commerce faculty was started. Only 42 students took the admission in the college. In June 1990 Science faculty was started on totally unaided basis. In June 1993 the Arts faculty was started. In June 1996 commerce faculty received 100% grants from the state government.In June 1999 Science and Arts faculty are also started receiving 100% grants from the government. Thus the Sudhagad Education Society run the college on non grant basis for 10 years. Inspite of the drastic financial problems, the college survived only because of the help rendered by Late Dadasaheb Limaye, Late Shri. J.N.Paliwala and Shri. V.G.Oswal and other members of the governing body.
In the academic year 2012-2013, 1092 students have taken admission in the college. In all fields we are growing. Today the College has 22 faculty members, out of which one is Ph.D holder, 4 have M.Phil Degrees and three have cleared NET examinations. We have framed our Aims and Objectives in such a way by putting the students, the society and the country at the centre. Every stakeholder should progress and develop and live in a cultured civilization. As far as the criterions are concerned, we have been striving hard to achieve the progress by utilizing all available resources.
Our College has taken a serious note of the various suggestions for improvement given in the Peer Team Report of NAAC and has worked sincerely to bring about the necessary improvement. Our motto is to provide Quality Based Education. Some important features of the college are as follows.
The institution ensures wide publicity & transparency in the admission process through the annual prospectus and college website which provides adequate information about the courses and the admission process.
The college provides concessions for the economically poor and disadvantaged students, scope for women and the differently able students and also gives preferences to sports person.
The percentage results of all courses run by the college are increasing every year. Many departments are showing excellence in the academic growth. The students of the geography departmentare University Rank Holders.
The College has developed very good academic environment in the campus.
The Principal holds a meeting of the HODs every month in order to get feedback from the various Departments and to discuss, plan and implement important issues.
The management, HODs and faculty members of various committees contributes to decision making, regarding academic and related work.
An Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) has been formed and is operative since the year 2005-2006
The office and Examination departments of the college are fully computerized.
Through N.S.S. various activities like tree plantation, blood donation, and AIDS awareness rally, participation as volunteers in Maghi Ganesh festival, water conservation schemes are organized. These programmes make them capable to contribute to the National development.
The College N.S.S. unit was felicitated as a Best N.S.S. Unit in the University of Mumbai in 2009.
Mrs. Anjali Puranik, Assistant Professor in Chemistry Department is recipient of “Smt. Savitribai Phule Adarsh Shikshika Puraskar” the most prestigious award in the University for her contribution as a teacher.
Prof. S.A. Patil and Prof. Mrs. S.S. Belwalkar from our institute are felicitated as the Ideal Teachers by different organizations.
All department of the college are showing excellence in teaching learning process.
Geography department of the college has organized National Level Conference.
The faculty of the college is involved in research, extension, co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
The faculty of the college is associated with University of Mumbai as examiner, paper setter and moderator.
Adequate infrastructure and learning resources are available. The significant infrastructural developments in the last 5 years has completed. It includes office and Classroom renovation, renovation and upgradation of science laboratories, enhancement of library resources, drinking water made available at more points.
Keeping in tune with the vision, college has tried to increase its academic ambience, infrastructure facilities, teaching learning activities, research activities, personality development activities etc. as per the recommendations made by the NAAC committee that visited college in February 2004.
Number of courses has been increased at UG & PG level. At UG level, new courses like B.Sc Physics and B.Sc. Botany were started by the college. Both courses are unaided and self financing. We have started M.Com Part I from the academic year June 2007. Due to the unavailability of the students the courses could not sustain.College has also started remedial coaching in the subject of Mathematics, Chemistry, Accountancy and English.
College library is renovated. Library is fully equipped with automation software, Internet facility and a spacious reading room for students and staff as well. Total number of books added in the last four years are 2130. This is in addition to a significant increase in the subscription to National and International level journals and magazines.
Many new facilities like separate Audio Visual cum conference room, H.O.D cabins have been added to the existing infrastructure . Additional equipmentlike LCD projector,computers, printers, Fax machine, Xerox machines etc…are purchased with a view to facilitate and support the teaching learning and administration activities in the college.
Many quality sustaining initiatives like establishment of IQAC, teachers’ self appraisal mechanism, feedback mechanism from students are strengthened as per the recommendation of NAAC committee.
In order to inculcate and promote research, research culture is developed in the college from the year 2006 onwards. Some faculty has completed M.Phil and Ph.D degree.
Faculty is deputed for National and International level seminars and conferences so as to encourage them towards research activities. Non-teaching staff is encouraged and trained to make use of office automation software so as to make administration easy and effective. Academic calendar and exam schedules are planned and followed meticulously in line with the university guidelines.
The NSS department of the college contributes to the physical and social development of the individual, team, leadership and social engineering. The student who passes out from this college is a composed and well rounded individual who is capable of negotiating and contributing to society’s progress. The College has Women Development Cell, SC/ST NT / DT advisory committee and Grievance Redressal Cell to ensure gender and social equity and provide help, support and guidance whenever required. Considering the need of time the college has established Anti-Ragging Committee to maintain discipline among the students.
The SC/ST students are given special attention by the faculty to ensure that they overcome social backwardness.
Governments of Maharashtra Scholarship are available to students of SC/ST.
The college also takes pride in starting that their students shine in cultural events, sports and inter college fests, bring fame and recognition to the institution. Student welfare committee, alumni association, counseling, and cultural committee address all the requirements of the students.
The healthy co-educational atmosphere preserved in the college is a mirror to the value system promoted by the institution over decades. The healthy practices in this regard include total gender equality, exceptionally clean campus, leading representation of women students in various activities.
Thus we are trying to do best in all fields. We have always been noting the significance of value-education which is imparted intentionally to our students through various functions and regular teaching. We maintain a laudable relationship with our stakeholders for the benefit of our students.
